Unfortunately, no one in the world is truly healthy. Each of us periodically worries about the state of our own organism. This is why we often expect each other's health, well-being, complemented by good spirits.
Low back pain is one of the most common complaints. And, if in childhood it seems to be only related to parents, then, after maturity, the awareness of that opinion comes. We are not insured against back pain based on age, social status or type of activity. And this, first of all, is due to various causes of pain in the lumbar spine, as well as various manifestations.
Diseases that cause back pain
Often, pain in the lower back is caused by a specific disease and is a consequence - a symptom, the nature of which makes it possible to carry out targeted diagnostics, make correct diagnoses and show ways, methods, methods, and, in general, treatment tacticsdisease.
Pain in the lumbar region whether primary or secondary.
Primer is directly related to spinal disease:
- osteochondrosis or articular cartilage dystrophic disorder (one-third of total patient visits);
- "bulging" intervertebral disc outside the boundary of the spine (protrusion), displacement of the disc nucleus, in which the fibrosus annulus ruptures (intervertebral hernia);
- displacement of one or more vertebrae: forward, backward;
- accelerates aging and destruction of intervertebral joint cartilage (spondyloarthrosis);
- growth of bone tissue along the edges of the spine in the form of spines (spondylosis).
Secondary pain is provoked by other organ diseases:
- fractures of the spine due to trauma or osteoporosis (increased bone fragility);
- the appearance of a tumor in one part (lumen) of the spinal canal;
- muscle tension;
- congenital spinal canal width is insufficient;
- all types of curvature of the spine and its combination, including defects that cause the appearance of "bumps" in the thoracic spine;
- various types of arthritis / joint disease (psoriatic, rheumatic etc. );
- vertebral tuberculosis, and other inflammatory processes affecting the intervertebral disc;
- kidney / urinary tract, pielonefritis (kidney damage);
- ovarian cysts, including cancer;
- back pain may also occur as a complication of pregnancy in women.
What can the lower back pain character show?
Of course, it is impossible to diagnose the degree, degree, type of back pain independently. However, when back pain, some specific symptoms show us this disease or that disease.
Severe pain
When the pain in the lumbar spine is severe, it is possible that the patient has osteochondrosis or sciatica. Moreover, in the first case, it manifests itself in the process of walking, when a person sits for a long time, lifting weights, and even when he coughs or sneezes. In some cases, there may be complaints that the back pain and this pain radiates to the feet.
If we talk about radiculitis, the patient describes his pain as acute or dull, painful, often - it is one-sided, and "responds" to the thighs, lower legs, buttocks. It can increase with walking, with a change in the position of the human body, with a cough.
What can acute lumbar pain indicate?
If the pain is severe, you should discuss it:
- muscle stretching;
- long-term work in uncomfortable conditions for trunk;
- back pain after sleep due to, again, uncomfortable body position and staying in it for long periods of time;
- pain that arises during the process of lifting or carrying a weight, in the event of a sudden fall, impact, or movement;
- hypothermia or prolonged exposure to drafts;
- also has the possibility of lumbago (called lumbago), which suffers from patients engaged in strenuous physical work. In this case, lower back pain can go away in a few days, but it also happens that it persists and accompanies a person for two or more weeks;
- intervertebral disc transplants that occur in the lumbar region - often appear in connection with fractures of the spine, with osteochondrosis, interactions with heavy objects (in particular, lifting them), in the process of performing strenuous physical action, or as a result of spinal surgery.
Pain pain: what is he talking about?
Pain (patients can formulate its description as "lower back pain", or "lower back pain") - very often appears in the inflammatory process of the lumbar muscles.
This disease occurs as a result of hypothermia, or sudden muscle tension / excessive stress. In this case, the patient defines pain as pain that binds the lumbar spine, and is accompanied by sharp pain during movement.
Chronic and persistent back pain
If the lower back hurts and even the patient himself can describe it as chronic, the most likely diagnosis is:
- spondylosis deformans - an increase in the amount of spinal cord tissue due to the appearance of spinal-like growths along the vertebrae (manifesting itself in severe back pain, especially in the lumbar region, which can combine numbness and / or weakness infeet);
- vertebral joint disease - often it has chronic systemic features;
- disease from a number of oncologists;
- metabolic disorders.
Pain without constant localization, moving
One of the most difficult cases to identify the underlying disease is pain that moves from time to time. At the same time, one can be sure that his lower back hurts, despite the fact that the body "cheats" on him, and the disease has spread to other organs.
This pain is often caused by pelvic organ disease. Inflammatory processes in the kidneys, diseases of the pancreas, colon can contribute to the appearance of pain in the lumbar spine, and it can also occur due to painful changes in bone tissue and different tumors.
Sometimes the painful condition of the lower back is confused with the pain that occurs in the shoulder blade area. However, these are still different types of pain, and are mostly related to different diseases. Thus, pain in the shoulder blades, for example, indicates stomach ulcers, myocardial infarction, intercostal neuralgia, and even a person’s psychological problems.
If you find it difficult to independently determine the area where the pain occurs, and at the same time it is normal or acute, then you should see a doctor immediately!
Injuries that cause lower back pain
Strangely, but often the cause of pain in the lumbar region is an injury received by a person - for example, with a bruise on the back muscle, or sprains. Timely visits to the doctor are a guarantee of accurate diagnosis and effectiveness of treatment.
In advanced cases, there is a high probability of complications, excluding serious spinal curvature.
Special features of back pain in women
"What are the specific causes of back pain in women? " - you ask. And we will answer that not much of it. And men, in general, can thank the Creator for not having this reason.
Among the "provocateurs" of lumbar pain in women are:
- menstruation / period;
- pregnancy;
- climax.
In each of these cases, the pain may be different. Depending on the direct cause, the characteristics of the female body, the level of pressure on the lower back during pregnancy, the age of the woman, her occupation, the type of professional activity - the pain manifests itself in different ways.
But what about men?
In men, painful lower back syndrome is, unfortunately, quite common.
And there are enough reasons for it without the female component:
- stretching (muscle, accompanied by sharp pain);
- fractures of the spine (after a person falls to his feet, or when a man hits his lower back), often men suffer such injuries in car accidents;
- protrusion / protrusion of the intervertebral disc or transfer of several intervertebral discs, when it begins to put pressure on the nerve root, usually this pathology arises and is diagnosed through excessive levels of physical activity;
- growth of genital organ cancer metastases in men, most often after age 50; at the same time, the pain develops with a change in the degree of damage to the bone tissue, and is so strong that it can be stopped only by taking special narcotic drugs, analgesics;
- spondyloarthrosis (when one nerve root or several roots are affected in the intervertebral duct area);
- if painful manifestations radiate, then this indicates the presence and development of prostate gland disease, liver problems, or kidney.
Risk factor: what can cause back pain?
Unfortunately, we cannot be sure of this or that disease. But with our strength to study risk factors - the most common causes of disease onset, and take steps to eliminate them (if possible) or at least partially neutralize their effects on the body.
The most common and significant risk factors for lower back pain include:
- does intensive training with great physical exercise (gym), especially on his spine and lumbar spine;
- awkward awkward movements;
- stay for a long time in the same position (for example, people whose activities are related to driving a car, working at a computer, and even working where one has to stand for a long time - in-store consultants, pharmacists)machines in factories, etc. );
- in the morning, the lower back may also be sore, which "speaks" that the mattress or pillow is not suitable for you, but they do not exclude the inflammatory process, which thus appears symptomatically;
- work, which is based on great physical or psychological stress, stress can also manifest in lower back pain;
- As mentioned earlier, pregnancy and childbirth also increase the likelihood of lower back pain;
- High weight and pain in the lower back are also closely related, as the strength of pressure on a person's internal organs and spine depends on the amount of weight.
When do you need medical treatment?
Just as we hate getting sick, we also hate asking for a doctor's help. There are many ways to identify the cause of the disease and its treatment independently. Of course, there is a reason for this belief.
But in case of back pain, you still want to differentiate it: here you can lie down, get your own medical treatment, but here - without the help of a doctor, sometimes urgent! - not enough.
We can emphatically say that if the pain is one-time, or the cause of the pain is one of the reasons for the female line, then, basically, you can not panic, but wait, watch the body, give it a chance to rest, do notexcessive.
If the pain does not persist and does not recur, then you have correctly identified the cause and you can do so without medical intervention.
For lower back pain:
- is repeated systematically;
- pass and resume;
- strengthened;
- persistent pain for more than three days;
- repeated in the morning;
- you are injured and associate the occurrence of pain in the lower back with it;
- you feel pain in the lower back and legs (legs and lower legs) at once;
- or - pain in the lower back combined with it buttocks and legs (thighs, lower legs, legs) and even numbness of the groin area - this is a serious reason for an immediate visit to the doctor!
In any of the above cases, you do not have to guess, find the cause of the pain yourself, wonder why your lower back hurts, but you should immediately contact a medical institution. Without medical help, the situation will get worse and treatment will require more time and effort.
Remember that back pain, lower back pain does not occur when you can joke or hope "at random" (intervertebral disc defects or transplants, for example, are never corrected by themselves)
Failure to diagnose pain in a timely manner on a person, as well as proper treatment, can lead to serious and complicated diseases, lumbar surgery and even paralysis of the lower body and disability.
